I am a lifelong maker of fine furniture with the odd stint in industry. I attended a two year cabinet-making program at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. We learned everything from nailing a box together to grinding spindle cutters. I worked with two of L.A.'s top furniture designer/makers: Morris Sheppard and Tom Braverman.
Since 2001, I've been altering, setting up and making my own instruments. Each bass is made entirely by me, with the attention to detail one person can give each piece.
Since 2005, Electric Double Basses are the main stringed instrument I make for sale. They have evolved to being very close to feeling, playing and sounding like an acoustic instrument, with the growl of an electric. All the characteristic double bass sounds can be had depending on how it is played. A locally designed onboard pre amp allows a very wide range of tone control from the instrument.
These instruments are for both the acoustic double bass player doing a lot of traveling and guitar bass players moving to a double bass. Both looking for transport that is airport friendly. This instrument is primarily another musical tool for both players.
Lately I've been making acoustic basses. One is very compact with a removeable neck and double bass body length. The other is a 3/4 double bass which can be seen as a build thread on the Luthier Forum on OzBassForum.com.
I have been an Australian resident since 1981, a citizen since 1995, and live in Cedar Vale, Qld.
